Landscript

Dating back further than the invention of writing over 10,000 years ago, we have told our stories and left our mark on the land. Earth’s surface reflects the growth, change, and destruction of our choices over time. Too often we view the land as a blank page for our writing, without consideration of the impact that our scratches will have on earth’s ecosystems, and other life. My work is an examination of our different mark-making on the land. Expanding upon a printmaking series I made on the topic, this AR rendering showcases the ever expansiveness of this human take over. Experienced through the first person view, the viewer is forced to traverse through these scratches, coming to terms with our treatment of the earth. It reflects our choices, their consequences, and it explores the motivation behind them. I want to call attention to the human, the marks that we make on the world, and to show that if our gradual takeover continues, little will be left for us to tell our stories.
